A Study on the Knwoledge and Attitude of Male and Female Students(Junior College Students) Toward Family Planning


Abstract
This study was attempted to examine the knowledge and attitude of male and female students about family planning.
359 students (3 Junior Colleges in Taejon) were investigated in April, 1991. The results obtained were summarized as follows:
1. Attitude of male and female students toward number of sibling is no significant difference between two group. Answer of appropriate is 68.3 % in male students and 67.6 % in female students.
2. Understanding of meaning of family planning is significant difference between two group (P < 0.001). Answer that control of No. of children and birth interval is 37.8 % in male students and 73.7 % in female students.
3. Attitude toward practicing family planning is significant difference between two group (P < 0.025). Answer of agree is 54.4 % in male students and 65.0 % in female students.
4. Ideal age of marriage was 28 - 29 years in male students (31.7 %), but 26 - 27 years in female students (47.5 %). There is significant difference between two group (P < 0.001).
5. Desired age difference between a couple is significant difference between two group (P < 0.001). Answer of 3 4 years is 31.2% in male students and 46.5 % in female students.
6. Ideal number and sex composition of children is significant difference between two group (P < 0.025). Answer of 1 boy and 1 girl is 45.8 % in male students and 60.6 % in female students.
7. Attitude toward preference of the sex of their children is significant difference between two group (P <0.001). Answer that boys and girls are equal is 55.6 % in male students and 87.2 % in female students.
8. Reasons that boys are more important than girls is significant difference between
two group (1¢¥ < 0.025). Answer of success of pedigree is 64.2 % in male students and 50.0 % in female students.
9. Attitudes on using induced abortion in event of unwanted pregnancy is significant difference between two group (1¢¥ < 0.025). Answer of agree is 34.4 % in male students and 41.3 % in female students.
10. Desire of further learning about family planning and sex education was higher in female students (74.9 %) than in male students (50.6 %) (P < 0.001).
